William “Bill” Bridges, age 79

William “Bill” Bridges, age 79, of Shelby, passed away Friday, November 21, 2014.

Born June 15, 1935 in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late William E. Bridges & Vernie Dycus Bridges. Bill served in the US Navy during the Korean War Era & also served in the Naval Reserve & Army National Guard for several years. He worked for Hoechst-Celanese & Sara Lee Industries as a HVAC maintenance technician. Bill was a member of Putnam Baptist Church & enjoyed camping with his family at Lake James.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 5 sisters, Geraldine Bridges, Corine Ellington, Edene Towery, Joyce Greene & Darlene Crowe; 2 brothers, Johnny Steve Bridges & James Edward Bridges; 1 grandson, Dana Michael Blake & great-granddaughter, Morgan Bristol.

Survivors include his loving wife of 22 years, Joyce Rogers Bridges; 4 daughters, Teresa Bridges Blake & husband, Leroy of Blacksburg, SC; Sherri Lynn Buff of Forest City, Angela Joy Buff & Toni Maxine Horton both of Shiloh; 2 sons, Dennis Eugene Bridges & wife, Shirley of Shelby & Jeffrey Scott Buff of Forest City. He is also survived by a number of grand & great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Adam Green officiating. Interment followed in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with the Rutherford County Honor Guard providing military honors.
