William James “Jim” Harris, age 95

William James “Jim” Harris, age 95 of Forest City died Friday, August 8, 2014 at Hospice House of Forest City.  He was born September 10, 1918 in Rutherford County and was a son of the late Gaither and Lillie Gamble Harris.  Jim served in the United States Army during World War II in the southern Philippines.  He worked  and retired from Stonecutter Mills Corporation, was a member of Florence Baptist Church and the Forest City Masonic Lodge No. 381 AF&AM.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Marcelle Dendy Harris, a brother, Ernest, and two sisters, Lucy and Olema.Survivors include his sisters, Dot Culbertson of Forest City, Shirley Tomblin of Spindale, brothers, Cecil Harris and wife Susan of Newnan, Georgia, Frank Harris and wife Julia of Clairmont, NC as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held in The Padgett and King Chapel with Reverend Dr. Bobby Gantt officiating.  Interment followed in the Cool Springs Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Florence Baptist Church, 201 South Broadway Street, Forest City, NC 28043 or Hospice of Rutherford County, Post Office Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043.
