Those who attend the performance of Jeanne Robertson during Women Together will also have an opportunity to view works of stained glass art by Rutherford County native Al Rhyne.

Rhyne and his wife, Lisha, are stained glass artists for Statesville Stained Glass. The couple’s work is featured as part of Statesville Stained Glass’ project at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Forest City.

Al has been involved for about 20 years as a painter on glass, mainly working on church windows, throughout the U.S. and all over the world. Early is his career Al did the stained glass piece that hangs in the chapel at Hospice of Rutherford County. He and Lisha together have a combined 35 years of experience in the art of stained glass.

For Immaculate Conception, the couple worked on ten stained glass pictorial windows depicting scenes with colored glass of the birth, death and rising of Christ along with many other special events in His life. The couple say they particularly enjoy working with stained glass designs which narrate Bible history, depicting episodes from the life of Christ.

The Rhynes’ works, along with pieces from the Lilly Oncology on Canvas Art Competition and Exhibition, may be viewed at Isothermal Community College’s Performing Arts Center between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 1, and 1:30 and 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

Both exhibits are part of Women Together, an annual event presented by Rutherford Regional Health Foundation that provides funding for mammograms for underinsured and uninsured women ages 49 and younger.
