Stella Newton Womack, age 82 of Forest City, NC passed away Saturday, July 11, 2015.

She was born October 30, 1932 in Rutherford County and was a daughter of the late Palmer Marvin Newton and Viola Lane Newton. Stella attended Rutherford County Schools and was a graduate of Tri-Community High School in the Class of 1951. She was a member of Haynes Memorial Baptist Church and in recent years attended Caroleen Baptist Church. She enjoyed music and was a former member of the Lucille Wall Music Club as well as playing both the organ and piano in the church.

Stella retired as the director from the Rutherford County Finance Office where she began working in 1969. After her retirement she continued to serve her community being elected to a seat on the Forest City Town Council where she served for twelve years. She was also a charter member of the Pilot Club of Rutherford County. Her sister, Helen N. Lowery preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, John Sherrill "Red" Womack of the home, a son, Johnny Womack of Forest City, two daughters, Amy Goode and husband Scott of Forest City, Karen Blackwell and husband Roger of Gaffney, six grandchildren, Brent Womack, Kevin Womack, Kirby Womack, Matt Goode, Zach Goode, and Alex Blackwell as well as seven great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held in the Cool Springs Cemetery with Reverend Terry Honeycutt officiating. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Rutherford County, Post Office Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043.

The Padgett and King Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
