Retired Col. Christy Haynes of Rutherford County will offer remarks on the 20th anniversary of 9/11 -- the terrorist attacks on America -- during a special ceremony Saturday in Forest City.
Haynes is the guest speaker for the 20th anniversary ceremony on Saturday, September 11 -- Patriots Day -- at the Pavilion on Park Square, Forest City.
She is scheduled to speak during the 10 a.m. hour that will include opening remarks, posting of the colors, the National Anthem and prayer.
The ceremony opens at 8:30 a.m. with an emergency vehicle display and at 9 a.m. commemorate music.
Each year the Forest City Fire Rescue and the Town of Forest City host a ceremony on September 11, also known as Patriot Day.
The Town of Forest City and Fire Chief Ferrell Hamrick encourage the public to attend the 20th anniversary ceremony to offer thanks to those first responders who put their lives on the line.
Colonel Haynes is the former Chief, Air Force Material Command Administrative and General Law Division, AFMC, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.
She graduated from UNC-Charlotte with two bachelor degrees and then received her Doctor of JurisPrudence degree from the University of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She then went on to attend the Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama.
Colonel Haynes was deployed in 2006 as the staff Judge Advocate for Al Dhafra Air Base.
She attended Sunshine Elementary School.
