Annual Broad River Fall Sweep was a success

River Stewards gathered litter along seven miles of the Broad River. Volunteers are always needed to help or to make monetary donations.

The annual Broad River Fall Sweep organized by Rutherford Outdoor Coalition (ROC) was a success. The River Stewards worked for nearly eight hours to clean up seven miles of the Broad River. The crew collected all kinds of litter that was polluting the waterway, including cans (hundreds), plastic, shoes, tires, a chair, and even a cell phone.

Anyone interested in volunteering to help with the clean up or to make a donation is encouraged to become a part of ROC.

Memberships are $20 annually for individuals and $35 for families that come with benefits like access to private recreation areas, discounts at area vendors, and most importantly help support the ROC mission.

Everyone that spent a long day with ROC during the recent River Sweep is thanked for helping keep the river beautiful.

The public is reminded the best way to keep the Broad River clean is to always take trash when leaving the river and pick up litter.
