Central, East Lose In conference Finals, But County Goes 5-for-5 In First Playoff Round
The matchup we thought we’d all see in the South Mountain Athletic Conference Finals came true as Freedom and R-S Central’s girls squared off, while the East Rutherford’s boys had to battle Freedom for the third time this year last Friday on the basketball court.

Unfortunately for the two Rutherford County teams, Central’s girls were upset at home and East was dealt one of its biggest losses in quite sometime.

It was Valentine’s Day - a little after noontime. Dan Royal, a carpenter for Carson Contracting, had to go on a work assignment. On the way back to work, he decided to stop by The Little Cubbard Store on Route 64 in Ruth to buy a Lottery ticket. Dan had $30 in his pocket and picked a North Carolina Lottery $10 Jumbo Bucks Scratchoff ticket from bin #3. The clerk Marty was working that day and sold Dan the ticket. He left the store and went outside and got in his truck. He decided to scratch off that $10 Jumbo Bucks ticket he just bought.

Outdoor Truths
While this time of the year is all about the fishing, I’m heading to South Carolina to hunt hogs. This is one of the most fun hunts anyone can take. The goal is to garner some pork for my freezer and to provide some meat for a friend’s ministry as well.
