This beary handsome black bear was spotted outside the patio area of the Sky Lounge at Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park. The photo was taken inside, making sure everyone kept their distance in order to protect humans and the bear.
The following are tips from BearWise on how to prevent a bear encounter while hiking:
Be aware of your surroundings.
Hike in groups and stay together.
Keep kids within sight.
Keep dogs on a leash or leave them home.
Make noise in thick cover.
