Rutherford County will soon experience the harvesting of coffee from what is believed to be the first American Hydroponic Grown Coffee Farm and will be grown at Isothermal Community College's 2,300 square foot space in the Walter Dalton building at Isothermal in partnership with Big Guns Coffee.

Big Guns Coffee founders/co-owners T. Shane Johnson and his daughter Charli, 9, of Mill Spring, plan to move 15 coffee trees he is already growing hydroponically at his home to ICC, and will be adding more. The process is similar to vineyards.

They appeared via video on the Kelly Clarkson Show last week and Charli told the audience everyone is supporting their business. Because of it they plan to help 1,000 needy children in Rutherford County this Christmas.

Johnson says his daughter is the one who came up with the idea of Big Guns Coffee. She is homeschooled where she spends time working her business and doing her school work.

Big Guns Coffee has locations in North and South Carolina.
