Bill Bowman, age 70, of Shelby, NC

Bill Bowman, age 70, of Shelby, NC, passed away Monday, January 20, 2025. Bill was born July 29, 1954 in Columbus, OH, to Donald Fox Bowman and Pat (Dell) Bowman, both deceased.

Bill attended schools in Baltimore, OH and Big Rapids, MI.

Bill graduated from Geneseo High School in Geneseo, NY. Bill attended Salisbury State College in Mardela Springs, MD; North Adams State College in North Adams, MA; and he graduated in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Baldwin-Wallace University in Berea, OH. Unfortunately, he soon realized that teaching large groups of children was not his calling. He much rather enjoyed sharing his knowledge with individuals or small groups.

For awhile Bill worked as a sales associate in the Hardware Department of Sears & Roebuck in North Olmsted, Ohio, exhibiting excellence as a problem-solver and mechanically-inclined. In 1979 he began a career at Northwest Orient Airlines as a Senior Reservation Agent until he retired at Northwest Airlines in 2009 in Seattle, Washington. He was commended frequently for his patient, customer-oriented service and compassion for callers. During his retirement, he enjoyed numerous volunteer roles such as a docent at the LeMay Car Museum in Tacoma, Washington; as well as helping family and friends resolve their automotive problems. Bill also participated for a few years with American Car Enthusiasts Clubs in Germany, familiarizing them with the nuances of their American cars.

Always tinkering as a backyard mechanic, teaching, educating, researching, mentoring, and volunteering, he was very generous with his time and talents. Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Cynthia D. (Miller) Bowman, brother Ted Bowman (North Olmsted, Ohio) and Ann (Bowman) Keller (Brunswick, Ohio) as well as nephews George Nicholas Keller, Peter Joseph Keller, and John Fisher Keller. At the request of the deceased, there will be no visiting hours and no funeral service. A small memorial service is planned in the near future at the Shelby Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Shelby, NC.

Private Family Services will be held at a later date.
