Bill Chalk passed away peacefully Sunday, June 17, 2012.

He was born and raised in Miami, Florida, a singer, entertainer and local theater actor, Bill went to Hollywood in the 60’s to be “discovered”. Plan B got him into sales/ insurance, settling in Albany, Georgia, working for Seely Business Machines and Prudential Insurance. Plan C worked like a charm when he attended Darton College and Valdosta State University until 1992 when he relocated with his new bride, Deborah West-Chalk, to a family summer home in Chimney Rock, N.C. and finished school at the University of NC in Asheville, receiving a Masters in Social Work at the UT in Knoxville in 1997.
Bill worked many years in community and county mental health in Western NC as a clinical social worker and was a committed member of the National Association of Social Workers. Bill was well read, a motion picture buff, loved sci-fi, dinosaurs and war history. He was a smart, funny guy and a “gentle man in a world of wolves”. Bill made a difference in his client’s lives, had many friends and was well liked by colleagues.
Proceeded in death by his step-son Scott C. West, and mother Elaine Carraway Liviagano.

Bill is survived by his wife of 20 years, Deborah, step-son Terry L. West, Jr. and wife Anita in Leesburg, Ga., step-grandson Christopher L. West of Evans, Ga., his maternal Uncle Bert Carraway and Aunt Bette Carraway of Charlotte, NC, his “favorite” cousin Bob Carraway of Charlotte, NC, and many other family and friends. He will be sorely missed and remembered as he wanted, with fondness and grace.

No funeral services are planned. Any memoriam can be sent to Four Seasons Hospice/Elizabeth House, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731, in appreciation for their professional service and compassionate care.

McKinney-Landreth & Carroll Funeral Home is serving the Chalk Family.
