Broad River Spring Sweep

Broad River Spring Sweep

On Saturday, June 24th, members of Rutherford Outdoor Coalition (ROC) and volunteers from the community came together for the ROC Broad River Spring Sweep. The river clean-up was a success with over 800 pounds of trash, including 17 tires and 3 patio chairs.

River pollution is a serious issue. Not only does the trash pollute the water, it is also a safety hazard. Broken bottles and rusty cans can be hard to see under the water and can cause serious injury if someone steps on them. We hope that one day those that litter will realize how much damage just 1 piece of trash can cause and will stop throwing their trash in the water. Until then, we will hold these clean-ups twice a year and try to keep our local rivers as clean as possible.

ROC's next river clean-up will be held in September. Email Hallie Zeedik at trails@rutherfordoutdoor.org or call 828-625-9983 ext. 505 for more information. Information about our organization including membership benefits and dates for our clean-up's, trail work days, group hikes, and group river floats can be found on our website at Rutherfordoutdoor.org and on our Facebook page.
