Cannon Music Camp Camperships Rutherford County for 2026

Laurel Lake Music Society has awarded tuition for two students from Rutherford County to attend Cannon Music Camp, June 20-July 11. The camp is a three week dorm experience located on the grounds of Appalachian State University. Funds are provided from donations of Tryon Estate residents. Tuition this year is $3,150/student. Madison Meador is currently a senior and plays the flute. She attends Rutherford Early College High School and commutes to Rutherford Central High School for the band program. Maddie serves as the Drum Major and plays flute during concert season. She attended Cannon Music Camp last summer. Madison will be attending Appalachian State University this fall. Following her audition in February, she was accepted into the Hayes School of Music to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Music Education. She performs in two community orchestras: The Symphony of Rutherford County and the Gardner-Webb University. Raymond Barber is currently a Junior and plays both the flute and the piccolo He attends Rutherford Early College High School and commutes to RS Central High School for the band program. He also earned 5th chair this year at the State Honors Band clinic and concert in Greensboro. He performs in two community orchestras: The Symphony of Rutherford County and the Gardner-Webb University as a piccolo player. Maddie and Raymond performed at Western Regionals at WCU, where they earned 1st and 2nd chair for flute (Raymond 1st, Maddie 2nd). Live stream final performances are scheduled July 11 from Cannon Music School.
