Catherine Louise Jenkins passed peacefully from this world April 15, 2025, at her home in Mililani, Hawaii.

A service for Catherine will be held at Pleasant Grove Methodist Church in Forest City on November 22 at 1pm, followed by burial in the church cemetery.

She is survived by Steve Matheny and Chris Glawson of Ellenboro, Peggy Thompson and Elizabeth Biggerstaff of Forest City, Danny Glawson of Charlotte, Scott Glawson of Bostic, Jeff Sloan and Becky Sloan of Morganton, and Vickie Brandenburg and Gregg Hill of Oak Hill, FL.

Catherine was born November 25, 1951, the only child of Bill and Louise Jenkins, who preceded her in death. She spent her childhood years in a house on Old Wagy Road in Forest City, just down from the church where she served as organist/pianist. After graduating from East Rutherford in 1970, Catherine continued her education, earning a BA in English from UNC Charlotte, and graduate degrees in rehab counseling and social work from the University of Tennessee and UNC Chapel Hill. She spent a lifetime serving people on the margins, from troubled teens at the juvenile facility in Swannanoa, to mental health clients on Oahu.

Though Catherine had been living in Hawaii for decades, having moved there with her mom and three dogs after her dad passed, Forest City and NC always held a special place in her heart

If you wish to honor Catherine in a special way, make a contribution in her memory to the charity or animal shelter of your choosing.

Mililani Mortuary in Honolulu, HI is assisting the family.
