Chase 6-0! Faces Biggest Game In Resent Trojan History
It maybe tabbed as the biggest game Chase has participated in over the last decade!

This Friday, Chase (6-0 overall, 2-0 in conference) finds themselves hosting the Burns Bulldogs (5-1, 1-0) on homecoming night. Chase comes off a big 28-14 win over R-S Central, which could be toughest challenge they have dealt with so far.

Burns was tabbed as the preseason favorite to take the conference title again after winning it a year ago, but Chase has the opportunity now to make something special happen this season. Burns barely escaped Freedom with a 27-26 win after the Patriots missed two late scoring chances (going for it on 4th down and then missing a field goal later on). Quarterback, Brandon Littlejohn has just over 1,000 yards passing and 12 touchdowns through the air. Chase also has somebody who can pick up yards in quarterback, Tyreece Gossett. Gossett has well over 600 yards on the ground so far to lead the county.

While Carlos Watkins is one of the hardest kids to block in the state and leads the Trojans defense, it’s highly touted Tank Ramsuer, who initiates similar attention on the Bulldog defensive front.

To get the victory, Chase will have to keep the Burns offense off the field and keep mistakes to a minimum. Burns can strike at any time and at any place. Chase has the confidence, they just need to keep up the intensity and heart they have shown all year.

No matter what though, it will be a Chase at East Rutherford matchup for the County Championship on October 28th.

Over at East Rutherford (5-1, 2-0) they made it look easy last Friday, handling Patton 44-6. Some unusual suspects stepped up this past week as Darrien McEntyre forced a fumble, C.J. Norman caught a touchdown pass and Charlie Perez blocked a punt and then took it to house for 6 points. However, T.J. Watkins scored twice on runs and once on a reception.

Homecoming is this Friday as they host non-conference foe, Providence Day. They series is tied at 2-2 with East coming back to win late during the last meeting in 2008, 26-16.

Providence Day (3-1) is led by Chase Ferguson (#2) and Byron Fields (#3). Fields, who plays both ways, has scored atleast one receiving touchdown in all four contests this season. The Chargers provide an interesting test since their defense has allowed just 19 points combined this season.

R-S Central (1-5, 0-2) will also host homecoming on Friday as they face SMAC foe, Freedom (5-1, 1-1).

The Hilltoppers continue to stay around in games, but have yet to pick up another “W” since a 21-20 win over McDowell in week one. They have lost their last three games by 15 points or less.

As for Central quarterback, Taylor Ledbetter, he is going to have to get rid of the ball quick. Freedom will stunt and create all sorts of pressure on defense. The Patriots do have multiple weapons, but signal caller, Michael Helms is likely to throw the ball all over the field and Marcus Kincaid is likely to catch it. Central needs to give themselves a chance like they have all season by building first half confidence and hang tight. Whatever happens after that, just does.

Last Friday, Thomas Jefferson battled well, but came up short, 52-34 against Avery County. The Gryphons held a 14-6 lead after the first quarter, but 22 second quarter points gave the Vikings a 28-14 lead at the half. TJCA got no closer than 28-21, but Travis Waldroup Rodriguez was the bright spot, catching an astounding 11 catches for nearly 250 yards and three touchdowns. The Gryphons will go to Hendersonville (5-1) this Friday.

On the volleyball front, East Rutherford (6-1, 4-0) has done something it never has, beat Chase and R-S Central once in the same season. They had never defeated Central since the program began. While Chase (7-3) and Central have dominated the SMAC over the past few years, maybe it’s a Lady Cavalier year? They all three have to face each other one more time though this season.
