The biggest challenges to the operation are winter weather and the task of threading heavy loads, attached by a rope 250 feet long, between large trees into drop zones on the upper mountain. A total of four helicopter operations are expected to complete the project. The Outcroppings trail is on schedule for completion this spring, when access to the Chimney and upper mountain will be restored. The elevator modernization and Sky Lounge Gifts & Deli renovation will also be completed and reopen this spring. The Old Rock Café in Chimney Rock Village, operated by Chimney Rock Management, LLC, the company that manages the Chimney Rock attraction, is scheduled to reopen on February 16 after a four-week renovation. The café will resume its normal winter hours Thursday-Monday, 11am to 4pm. Winter Visitation. The mild winter has also contributed to higher Park attendance compared to last winter, when the park closed for days at a time during harsh winter storms in December and January. Discounted winter admission rates offer guests even more appeal. Though access to the Chimney and upper mountain is closed, the 404-foot Hickory Nut Falls and up to 75-mile views still visible from the top parking lot continue to steadily draw visitors.
