Clyde Eckel Roberts, age 70, a former resident of Spindale, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2021.

Born June 8, 1950, in Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Joseph Burrell Roberts and Emily Adeline Eckel Roberts.

Clyde was a faithful member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Besides his passions for cars (especially GTOs), he enjoyed riding motorcycles and listening to rock music. His greatest joy as of late was his grandkids. His face lit up at the very mention of them.

He was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Jeanette Brockmeier who passed in 2008.

Survivors include his son, Chris Roberts, and his wife Naomi of Bostic, his two grandchildren, his sisters, Betsy Candler, and husband Willard of Weaverville and Susan Ross of Spruce Pine, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be planned by the family and will be announced at a later date.
