Cornelia Horton King passed away Sunday, December 18, 2022.

She was born September 12, 1931 in Spartanburg County, SC. The daughter of Vance and Inez Poteat Horton and graduated from Boiling Springs (SC) High School.

In 1952, she met the love of her life, Tommy King, a native of Forest City. They married in 1953. They were members of the First Baptist Church in Forest City.

After the death of Tommy in 1973, Cornelia began her career as a reading teacher's assistant at Alexander Mills Elementary and, later, at Forest City Elementary. She retired in 1996.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas "Tommy" King, Jr. and her six siblings.

Survivors include her sons, Jim King, and partner Brenda Lee Hunter, of Rutherfordton, Van King and wife Susie of Rutherfordton, and Don King and wife Angie of Forest City, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was held December 21 in The Padgett and King Chapel with Rev. Dr. Diane Nelson officiating.
