Davis Reeves Poplin, 96, of Forest City passed away April 15, 2023, at Care Partners, Solace Hospice Center, in Asheville. He was born September 18, 1926, in Wilkes County to Silas and Laura Mae Reeves Poplin.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving during World War II. Upon returning home he married his love, Nona Lee Dobbins. He worked various jobs, before they relocated to Winston- Salem and made their home. He had a career as a long-distance truck driver.

His love for Christ and being involved in church attendance and activities was very important. He was a member of Florence Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nona of 56 years. Also pre-deceased by his brothers, Carl, Aaron and sister Edna and son-in-law Larry Brown.

He is survived by daughters Sheila Dotson (David), Patti Brown and Kathy Oleksa (Chuck): grandchildren Ben Dotson and Christina Atkins (Andrew); great-grandchildren: Hadley, John Michael and Saylor; his sister Nancy Steelman, sister-in-law Jo Poplin and several nieces and nephews.

Giving of himself (as Nona did), Davis donated his body to Wake Forest University School of Medicine, wanting to give to medical research with hopes of helping others.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. at Florence Baptist Church on Sunday, April 23 with Rev. Daniel Selman and Rev. Tonya Garrison officiating.
