Don Richard Lane, age 78 of Spindale died Monday, September 14, 2026. Don was born February 26, 1948, in Rutherford County and was a son of the late Richard Lewis Lane and Annie Mae Freeman Lane. Don graduated from East Rutherford High School.

Don worked many years for Western & Southern Life Insurance. Following his retirement he worked as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He was also a retired volunteer firemen with the Spindale Fire Department.

He spent his life in service to his Lord and Savior as well as the church as a Deacon and Choir Director. Don served as Choir Director at Goodes Creek Baptist Church, Forest Lake Baptist Church and Wilson Baptist Church. He led music for 40 years as well as singing with musical groups. He was currently attending Middle Cross Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Lane Ramsey.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Lane, his children, Donna Lane Mills and husband Rev. Matt Mills, and their children, Jonathan, Michael, Brittany, and Emersyn Mills, Darla Lane Stokely and husband James, and their children, Allison and Will Stokely, and Darren Lane and wife Rebecca Lane and their children, Gracey, Daniel, and Katey Lane, and his sister, Brenda Lane Hammond.

The funeral was held September 19 in The Padgett and King Chapel with Rev. Matt Mills and Rev. Daryl Crawford officiating.
