Dr. Roger Stanley McCluney, age 72, born February 19, 1947 passed away on February 26, 2019.

He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Justice McCluney; his sisters, Gail Hammett of Rutherfordton and Magel Casey of Charlotte; and his parents, CT and Reba McCluney.

Dr. McCluney is survived by his two beloved sons, Justin T. McCluney and Jeremiah S. McCluney, both of Rutherfordton along with their spouses, Jennifer and Alice and four grandchildren.

"Doc" was a lifelong educator and served in many capacities in the Rutherford County School System for more than 30 years and retired from the principal ship at Mt. Vernon-Ruth Elementary School in 2005. He was active in the Rutherfordton Lions Club and The Sounds of Singing Men. Roger served as a Deacon and actively participated in the choir of Spencer Baptist Church, most recently performing with the group in Carnegie Hall, New York City in November 2018.

A memorial service to celebrate his life was held at Spencer Baptist Church, Spindale. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Spencer Baptist Church, 207 N. Oak Street, Spindale, NC 28160.
