George Kenneth Blue, Jr., 78, of Lawndale, passed away Sunday, January 15, 2012.
A Celebration of Life Service was held at Shelby Presbyterian Church.
Born on March 3, 1933, in Rowan County, NC, he was a son of the late George Kenneth Blue, Sr., and Mary Anne Steele Blue.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant brother, Daniel Steele Blue. George was a graduate of Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC where he was an outstanding academician and athlete. He was also a veteran of the United States Army.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Joy Godfrey Blue, of the home; four children, Mary Bonnie Blue Butt and husband Stephen of Vancouver, B.C., Canada, Dr. George Kenneth Blue, III, and wife Virginia of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, Dr. Jeffrey Godfrey Blue and wife Sarah of Atchison, Kansas, Elizabeth “Beth” Jo Blue Graf and husband Joe of Alexandria, Virginia; three sisters, Beth Foster and husband Robert of Edisto Island, South Carolina, Mary Anne Crocker and husband O’Niel of Charleston, South Carolina and Judy Proctor of Saluda, South Carolina; his grandchildren, Rebecca Blue of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee; George Blue of Atchison, Kansas, Michael Spero of Atchison, Kansas, Matthew Spero of San Antonio, Texas, and Samuel Blue Graf of Alexandria, Virginia. Memorials may be made to the Scholarship Fund that is being established in memory of George Kenneth Blue, Jr.: Presbyterian College, George Kenneth Blue, Jr. Scholarship Fund, c/o Allen Tate Realty, 405 East Warren Street, Shelby, NC 28150.
