Herman Franklin Spicer, age 87 of Forest City

Herman Franklin Spicer, age 87 of Forest City died Thursday, January 1, 2026.

Herman was born August 7, 1939, in Rutherford County and was the son of the late Ernest Franklin Spicer and Rose Bailey Spicer.

He was a graduate of R-S Central High School, a member of Riverside Baptist Church, and he proudly served for 11 years in the North Carolina Army National Guard.

Herman loved flying and he became a licensed pilot at the age of 16.

Herman worked for Combined Insurance Company for 38 years as both Senior District Manager and Sub Regional Manager where he served faithfully and with distinction.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jeanette Spicer Carpenter and his brothers, Tommy Spicer and Gene Spicer.

Survivors include his wife, Russell King Spicer, his son, Kevin Spicer and wife Zhiling of Greer, SC, his daughter, Sherri Spicer Capps and husband Keith of Chesnee, SC, his grandchildren, Elizabeth Spicer, Griffin Capps, and Alex Capps Burke and husband Brett, as well as his great-grandchildren, Andrew, MaryAnn and Benjamin.

A service from the graveside will he held at 2pm on Thursday, January 8 at Eternal Hills Memorial Park with Rev. Bill Roberts officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service. His body will lie in repose from 9 until 11am on Thursday morning at Padgett & King for those wishing to view and pay their respects.

The family wishes to express their sincerest and most loving appreciation to Rena Ledbetter who became a member of the family while caring for Herman.
