James "Jimmy" Goforth, age 72

James "Jimmy" Goforth, age 72, of Forest City, passed away Sunday, September 10, 2018.

Born August 2, 1946 in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Mal Briscoe Goforth and Rosa Lee Barnes Goforth. He was a graduate of Chase High School and Cleveland Technical College. Jimmy was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served his country during the Vietnam War. He worked for Fiber Industries for thirty years before retirement and was a faithful, dedicated and long-time member of Chase Baptist Church. He served as a deacon and Sunday School Director at the church and enjoyed woodworking. Jimmy loved his family and took great pleasure in spoiling his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda G. Goforth and brother, Jack Goforth.

Those left to cherish his memory include one son, Jamie M. Goforth and wife, Cynthia of Forest City; brother, Roy Lee Goforth and wife, Maxine of Cliffside; two granddaughters; four great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Aretta Grant of Charlotte.

The funeral service was conducted at Chase Baptist Church. A graveside service at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with military honors being provided by the Rutherford County Honor Guard followed the service.
