James Porter, age 72, of Mooresboro, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023.

James was born December 30, 1950 in Rutherford County to the late James Luther Porter and Ora Biggerstaff Porter. He served honorably in the US Army and was a graduate of Cleveland Community College. James worked at Cone Mills for 35 years before retirement. He was a member of Sandy Level Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Skyler Deaton and a brother, Richard Porter.

Those left to cherish fond memories include his wife of 52 years, Mary Luckadoo Porter; son, Darren Porter (Crissie) of Gaffney, SC; daughter, Lisa Hendrick (Terry) of Shelby; three grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, sisters, Diann Hoppes, Shirley Hoppes, Sandra Howard, Brenda Newton and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.

A graveside service was held March 22 at Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Tim Elmore officiating. Military Honors were accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.
