James William Powell, 79, went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, June 22, 2023.

He was born in Cleveland County to the late George and Ruth White Powell. He is also predeceased by brothers, Charlie Powell and Marvin Powell; sister, Caroline Barrett.

Left behind to cherish his memories are his sons, Barry Powell and wife, Amy and James Powell, Jr. "JJ" and wife, Amanda; grandchildren, Brooke and Ethan Greene, Victoria Powell, Jordyn Powell, Skylar and Haley Powell, Bryanna and Taylor Long, Hunter and Cheyanne Powell; seven great-grandchildren, brothers, Donald Powell and Bill Powell; sister, Betty Canipe.

James attended Bethel Baptist Church of Shelby. In his earlier years he worked at Safety Test and American Safety. For most of his life he was self-employed.

Funeral Services were held June 24 at Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. Tim Sims officiating.
