JoAnn Pitts Smart, age 83, of Ellenboro, passed away April 14, 2022.

JoAnn was born April 18, 1938 in Rutherford County to the late Preston Allen Pitts and Jenny Hollifield Pitts. She was a graduate of Tri-High School, and worked for Burlington Industries-Caroleen Plant for over 35 years. JoAnn was a member of High Shoal Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Oliver Smart and siblings, Dewey Pitts, Bill Pitts, Cophelia Frazier and Ann Bass.

Left to cherish fond memories include daughters, Robin Dobbins (Bruce) and Rhonda Byers (Randy) all of Ellenboro; son, Jimmy Smart (Renee) of Mooresboro; and sister, Sybil Fisher, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held April 18, at Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Rev. Shane Adkins and Rev. Ricky Poteat officiating.
