Kay Brooks, age 72, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2022.

A native of Rutherford County, Kay worked as a hairstylist at Magic Touch Salon.

She is survived by her daughter Rhonda Hill and husband Brad; one granddaughter, one brother Jimmy Ownbey and wife Brenda; and one sister Minnie Wallace.

Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Carey Appling; her parents, Ray and Mary Sue Dale Ownbey; and four brothers William, Tommy, Donald and Dennis Ownbey.

Funeral services were held January 3 at Crowe's Funeral Chapel with Rev. Randy Darley officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 130 Pleasant Grove Rd., Rutherfordton NC 28139.
