Local pet takes top honor in Sixth Annual Citadel Beautiful Bulldog Contest

Elliot, a 4-1/2 year old English bulldog owned by Bob and Cathie Porter of Forest City, was named overall winner during the Sixth Annual English Bulldog Pageant, held Saturday, March 19, prior to the school's Spring Football Game.

Each year the annual event is held to bring awareness and funds to the school's mascot program. Created by the Citadel Football Association, the contest continues to grow in popularity and brings participants and fans together for an entertaining pre-game show. This year's pageant had 20 adult dogs and eight puppies to compete.

Awards are given in a variety of categories, including best physique, best smile, best markings/coat, Mr. Personality and Miss Congeniality.

The Forest City couple has ties to the Citadel. Bob is a graduate of the military college, and Cathie is from the Charleston area. Pictured with Elliot are Bob and Cathie, and their granddaughter, Mary Catherine.
