Mary Olive Mintz Vogels

Mary Olive Mintz Vogels, passed away on August 4, 2018.

Mary was born February 20, 1918, in New Hanover Co., NC, was the second of 7 children born to Benjamin J. Mintz and Lavada Sellers Mintz. In 1937, she married John William Vogels of Castle Hayne, NC, with whom she had 4 children: twin sons, Bob and Ben, daughter, Mary (Snooky), and youngest son, John.

For most of her married life, she concentrated on nurturing her children and being a loving wife. Our mother was the best mother we could have ever wished for. She was quiet and gentle and never had an unkind word to say about anyone. A strong faith in God was her strength and led her to be a founding member of Oak Grove Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, NC.

Mary Olive is predeceased by husband John; son, Bob Vogels; daughter-in-law, Jean Davis Vogels; brothers, Benjamin Mintz, Jr., Loyd Mintz and Fritz Mintz; sisters, Ethel Smith and Loreta Mercer. Survivors are sons, Benjamin W. Vogels of Hamptonville, NC; John W. Vogels II and wife Jane of Lattimore, NC; daughter, Mary V. Landen of Charlotte, NC; daughter-in-law, Mary Marquis Vogels of Grand Prairie, TX; sister, Betty Williams of Shallotte, NC. Mary Olive has 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; along with many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wilmington, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of Mary Olive be made to a charity of your choice.
