Maurice Laxton Houser, 90, of Cliffside, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2012.

    A native of Rutherford County, he was born on May 6, 1922, a son of the late Tilden and Essie Ramsey Houser. He was retired from J&C Dyeing. He was a United States Army Veteran where he served in World War II and was in the Signal Corp. He was a lifetime member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and was a Bell Ringer for 25 years.

    In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Bridges Houser; four brothers, Ealon Houser, Lee Houser, Yates Houser and Huland Houser; one sister, Hetty Price. He is survived by his special friend and companion, Sue Frye of Cliffside; his sons, Larry Houser and wife Shirley of Cliffside, Cecil Houser and wife Rheta, David Houser and Sheree Dotson of Earl, and Philip Houser and wife Kathy of Cliffside; his grandchildren, Matthew Houser and wife Amy, Summer Johnson and husband Clay, Shawn Henline and husband Brandon, Justin Houser, and Zeke Houser; his great-grandchildren, Maggie Houser, Blakely Henline, Autumn Johnson, Logan Houser, Taylor Condrey Jaylee Henline, and Noah Johnson; one sister, Ottie Roberson of Columbia.

    Funeral services were held at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Mooresboro, with the Rev. Bobby Gettys officiating.

    Memorials may be made to Mount Pleasant Baptist Ch., 1301 Mount Pleasant Church Rd., Mooresboro, NC 28114.
