Mr. Edwin Hames, of Cliffside, NC passed away Thursday, May 12, 2011. Services was held at A.C. McKinney Memorial Chapel. Burial followed in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Hames served our country in the U.S. Army in World War II as a medic with the 120th Hospital Division including the Battle of Luzon and in New Guinea.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil T. and Mavie Dobbins Hames; his step-father, Leonard Rhymer; and 2 brothers, Ted W. Hames and Walter Lee Hames.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys Beard Hames of the home; 1 son, Dennis Wayne Hames of Cliffside; a number of nieces and great nieces.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Cliffside Baptist Church, P.O. Box 336, Cliffside, NC 28024; and the American Cancer Society, 2200 Lake Blvd., Atlanta, GA 30319.

McKinney-Landreth & Carroll Funeral Home, Cliffside, NC is serving the family.
