Mr. Leonard Vernon "Cantaloupe" Propes, 89, of Golden Valley, passed away Monday, November 13, 2017.

Leonard was born in Golden Valley on March 31, 1928. He was preceded in death by his mother, Eva Propes Huskins and his stepfather James Banner Huskins. He was a dedicated member of Golden Valley United Methodist Church, and was retired from NC DOT after 33 years of service and loved to travel. As an avid sports fan, Leonard loved the Tarheels, the Dodgers and church league softball.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ethel Houser Propes; his 2 daughters, Karyn Oliver and husband Tim, of Polkville, and Janice Scoggins and husband Andrew, of Golden Valley; his son, Jeff Propes, of the home; 3 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

The Funeral was conducted at Golden Valley United Methodist Church. The Rev. Kevin Towery officiated.
