Once Again . . . We Pause To Remember!

Laying of the Wreath by Rutherford County representatives of the Armed Forces.
The presentation of our flag... the military uniforms proudly worn... the speeches spoken... the crowd that gathered to listen... all a part of a ceremony honoring those who gave the supreme sacrifice for our nation.

One day, each year, we take the time to remember. It is as if we are listening to all those who seemingly speak from their graves. We salute them. The respectful silence that falls over the event embraces our time and place.  We are filled with emotion. Some have tears flowing down their cheeks. We are thankful. We are grateful. Some remember a member of their family who gave of themselves. We are proud Americans that come together to remind the world not only why we exist, but because of those who make it possible for us to exist.

It’s Memorial Day, 2011, in Forest City, Rutherford County, North Carolina. Once again, we salute all those special service men and women that have and continue to make our lives possible. We give thanks... we say a prayer... although we try, words can’t seem to express our true feelings. However, 24 notes slowly played on a bugle, seem to say it best. We shall always remember... we shall always give thanks. How lucky we are to live in the “home of the brave and land of the free”!

God Bless America and especially all those who gave the supreme sacrifice so we can still say those wonderful words.

“Greater love has no man than this, than a man who lays down his life for his friend.” - John 15:13
