Paul Reid Toms, age 95 of Rutherfordton passed away Friday, January 13, 2017.

Paul was born on August 4, 1921 in Rutherford County and was a son of the late Lawrence and Cleo Gordon Toms. He worked for 27 years at Stonecutter Mills Corp. as a loom fixer and later at Regtrol where he retired with 7 years service.

Paul was a longtime member of Adaville Baptist Church and was a United States Army veteran of World War II where he served overseas for more three years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Jerry, Hoyle, Howard, Junior, and sister Marilyn Toms.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Thelma McNeilly Toms, two daughters, Paulette T. Vess of Spindale, Cheryl T. Godfrey and husband Ray of Forest City, son, Danny Toms and wife Debbie of Rutherfordton, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; a brother, John Toms and wife Mary of Rock Hill, SC, sisters, Eunice Yelton of Forest City, Lois Hoppes of Shelby, and sister-in-law, Sue Toms of Forest City and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at Adaville Baptist Church with Reverend Jonathan Cobb officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
