Philip G. Shaner, age 88, of Forest City, passed away Friday, September 26, 2014.

Born October 23, 1925 in Virginia, he was a son of the late Philip G. Shaner, Sr. & Ola Saunders Shaner. He was a 16 year veteran of the US Army having served during World War II & the Korean War and was a recipient of the Bronze Star.  He worked as a Real Estate agent for many years & was a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Philip served as the Adult Sunday School teacher at Rock Springs Baptist Church & later on at Shiloh Baptist Church.  Philip was dedicated to his family, his country and his Lord. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 son, Philip G. Shaner III & 2 brothers, Ben & Danny Shaner.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Virginia S. Shaner; 4 sons, Gary Wayne Shaner, Mark Stephen Shaner, Michael Shaner & Philip Eric Shaner; step-son, John Lowry & wife, Teresa of Hendersonville; step-daughter, Lynne Potter of Myrtle Beach; 19 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren & 3 great-great-grandchildren.  

A memorial service was conducted at Shiloh Baptist Church with Reverend Don Crawford officiating. Inurnment followed in the church cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.
