Heroes are all around us. Whether it's the EMT that performs a medical procedure at a crash scene that saves a life or a police officer whose quick thinking prevents a tragedy, they're everywhere. No others in our community deserve our support and praise more than those who rush into a raging fire to save a life or stand vigil, monitoring our condition and providing comfort as we heal from life threatening injuries or illnesses. Doctors, nurses, firefighters, EMT's and police officers, who've trained vigorously and spent countless hours preparing themselves for such an occasion, are heroes in every sense of the word.

We are halfway through the NASCAR season as 18 of 36 races are now complete. So, why not share a Dale Earnhardt Jr. memory since this is his last year of racing. I have six monumental moments of his career. This series will continue as the season progresses.

William Edward (Eddy) Watson passed away peacefully at the Carillon New River Medical Center in Christiansburg, Virginia on July 1, 2017 after a 21 year battle with Multiple Sclerosis. A native of the Shiloh Community of Rutherford County, Eddy had resided at Heritage Hall in Rich Creek, VA since August 2015, when he relocated to be near his beloved niece and her family.

When an allergic reaction sent young Gill's mother, Sherry, to the emergency room one evening, the waiting room TV was airing a show that sparked his imagination. "There I stood, feeling frozen and a little bit worried for my mom, when my eyes wandered up to the television. A cooking show called CHOPPED KIDS was on and kids were cooking! I watched with excitement and that is when my dream of being a chef on a kid's competitive cooking show was born"

The Forest City Owls will be in Coastal Plain League playoffs this season. Although, Gastonia and Florence were chasing, it was the Owls who clinched that first half Western Division in the CPL this past week.

Magdalene Marie King Raisch Bowermaster was born on March 30, 1920 to Aaron and Ida King in Flanagan, Illinois. She went home to be with her Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, July 1, 2017.
