Both East Rutherford teams had a great season, but the boys and girls fell in heart breakers at regionals this week from Greensboro.

East Rutherford boys led the entire way against North Rowan, but it wouldn’t hold up.

The Cavs fell down by three with under 15 seconds to go and East had two more looks from three, but missed both as the season ended in the Elite Eight of the 2A basketball playoffs.

We miss so much in life, don’t we?

   When my wife and I vacationed in Maui, we were blessed to ride around the island in a Mustang convertible.  The weather was perfect.  It rained only about fifteen minutes the whole week so we enjoyed Maui with the top down everywhere we went.

   One particular trip was especially memorable.  We left early in the morning, ate breakfast on the way, and drove down the infamous “Highway to Heaven,” the road to Hana.  This road is mostly switchback turns, one-lane bridges, and picture-postcard scenery that literally takes your breath away. 

   Since we had the top down, we smelled the orchids blooming in a rain forest, pineapples growing out in the fields, and hundreds of acres of sugar cane being harvested.  If we had driven with the top up, we’d have missed all of those wonderful smells and scenes.

   Do you drive the twists and turns of your life with the top up?  Missing all of the wonderful sights and smells sent your way?  Break out of the familiar, put the top down so you don’t miss a thing and live positive.

Since the Forest City Owls made their debut in 2008, there have been two General Managers. The team has also won two championships and been voted the number one collegiate summer team in the country. We all are indebted to Robert C. McNair, owner of the NFL Houston Texans and native of Forest City, whose generosity made the new baseball stadium, and return of baseball, a possibility. Who of us can ever forget the first game on Thursday, May 29, 2008.
