How are you transforming life?

A journalist was assigned the Lebanon beat.  Walking through the bombed-out streets of Beirut one day, he heard some beautiful music coming from a doorway.  He wandered over to where the music was being played and there saw a young boy playing a flute.

New Bethel A.M.E. Zion Church Honors Martin Luther King, Jr. And The President’s Inauguration
New Bethel A.M.E. Zion Church Honors Martin Luther King, Jr. And The President’s Inauguration
Monday, January 21, 2013 was a very special day. It was a day that celebrated both Martin Luther King, Jr. and the second inauguration of President Barack Obama. The President took his oath of office as he placed his hand on not one, but two Bibles. One was Abraham Lincoln's Bible and the other that of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It was very symbolic of a dream realized. The inauguration coincided with the celebration of MLK, Jr. Day and it proved to be a very special one.

It Won’t Be The Last Matchup Between Shelby & East Rutherford!

It’s in the playoffs where teams get one chance to see who is the better team, but in the South Mountain Athletic Conference, East Rutherford and Shelby will soon meet again.

The initial meeting between two of the best varsity boys basketball teams in the state among the 2A ranks went to Shelby last Friday in a packed “Jungle Gym“. There easily could be three more opportunities of a East-Shelby rematch.

Outdoor Truths
Outdoor Truths
My outdoor activities have been limited as of late. The busyness of life and things that are more important have been moved to the top of my priority list. I know many people think that I must hunt and fish all the time, but that is far from the truth. I actually seem to do it less now than when I was younger. I can remember the days when I almost felt an addiction to hunting; and before that, fishing. The circumstances of nature governed my activities. I always thought that the day I didn’t go would be the day the fish would be biting or the deer would be moving. I’m glad I’m not that obsessed anymore. And I’m glad that I am not as easily influenced by temptations of this kind. I tend to plan my hunts now.

What are you thinking about right now?
I was in the Washington, DC area to speak, driving through some of what I’m convinced is the eternal road construction there.  So here I am driving slowly in traffic when I see beside me this huge motor grader running about 35 mph on what will be a road.  It looks like it’s carrying about 20 tons of dirt in it, and its moving faster than I am.

Will Rutherford County’s Only Movie Theatre Soon Close Down?
Will Rutherford County’s Only Movie Theatre Soon Close Down?
It has to be done by March 31st of this year for Cinema 4! Less than 90 days from now. If movie theaters cannot convert to digital projectors, as required, it’s all over! For Cinema 4 in Forest City. The average cost is $75,000 per screen for the Forest City theatre. Hollywood’s switch from 35-millimeter film to digital movies is imperiling some small theaters throughout the nation that just can’t afford new digital projectors. The availability of first run movies ends this year. It will affect almost thirty percent of the screens throughout the country and at least fifty percent of the theaters. The little, local, movies houses are in big trouble.

East Rutherford Boys Hoops Sweep During Week, Host HUGE Game Friday
East Rutherford Boys Hoops Sweep During Week, Host HUGE Game Friday

If East Rutherford basketball wants to claim another conference title, this past Friday, they took a big first step.

This past week, they whipped Burns and then dumped Freedom both on the road. Travis Waldroup-Rodriguez put up 26 and 21 points in back-to-back games.

Although, the story is that East Rutherford came back from a 12-point early hole, to lead by 10 at the break against Freedom, who is among the front runners in the SMAC again this year. From there, the Cavaliers had no problems notching the victory.
