Have you noticed that there’s a whole lot to life that changes, even blue jeans?
I’m trying to figure out something today. Maybe you can help me. I’m trying to understand what’s changed about blue jeans.
Growing up in the 60s, of course, I wore blue jeans like everyone else; you know, the kind with patches on them. Back then, my Mom had to buy me “slims” because of my thin waist and long legs.
A few months back, my wife bought me some jeans that were called “relaxed fit.” Now frankly I have no idea what that means, but while the jeans were the correct size, they didn’t fit. They were too big. So she went back and got me the same size in a style known as “regular.” And they fit.
So does this mean that yesterday’s slim is now today’s regular? And that today’s “relaxed fit” is yesterday’s regular? I mean, my body feels “relaxed.” I go to the gym and run and work out a little so I’m not flabby relaxed, but I didn’t think I was “regular” either.
There’s a whole lot to life that changes. How do you deal with it? Focus on the positive as you work positive and live positive today.
I never can remember ever liking school as a child. Most of my memories are of recess and girls. However, I do recall springtime in grade school. It was during that time that I was allowed to ride my bike to school. I can still remember breathing the cool, damp air as we road past the foundry and the ice plant, and across the railroad tracks, to the East End Elementary School. I remember very little about the destination but the journey is still vivid in my mind. The trip was only about two miles long but it seemed like an adventure. My neighborhood friends and I would gather up for the trip each morning. We looked like a future motorcycle gang and we had the nicknames to match. I’m glad my parents gave me such freedom.
With hoops being done for the year, conference high school baseball and softball began this week. R-S Central and East Rutherford went matched up on Tuesday as East will head to Patton on Friday, and host Polk (18th) and Burns (21st) next week.
Chase had Patton on Tuesday, North Henderson on Wednesday and goes to R-S Central on Friday (18th). The Trojans follow that with road trips to Burns (19th) and Shelby (21st). R-S Central will visits Burns on the 19th and host Patton on the 22nd. Thomas Jefferson hosted Mitchell on Tuesday, will host Avery at McNair Field on Friday (15th) and then got to Highland Tech on the 19th.

I’ve noticed lately how the fishermen are getting amped up for the spring tournaments. A recent trip to my local bait shop confirmed my suspicions. There were brochures everywhere promoting those upcoming events. But another thing I’ve noticed is how bad the weather has been lately. I guess it’s normal for this time of year, but there are usually some good weekends when the fishermen can get on the lake, find where the fish are, and experiment with what they might be hitting. If everything stays the way it is now there will be no early preparation. It will be practice as you go. There are, however, a few things that most anglers already have in their bag of tricks; namely that they have done this before. They will begin their pursuit at the places that have produced in times past.

There are three things that are very distinguished features in Forest City. One is the downtown fountain, second is the famous clock in front of Mountain First Bank and last, since the year 2000, the Clive Haynes mural, which takes up an entire city block.
