Outdoor Truths
Outdoor Truths
In most parts of the country an odd thing begins to occur for a deer during this time of year. The bucks begin to lose their antlers. By losing, I mean the antlers become loose because of several factors, and they just fall off. These abandoned antlers are called sheds. And many people enjoy shed hunting during February and March. If they are not scooped up during this time, the squirrels and other critters will eat most of them. But when found, they make great decorations and can be worth money to others as well. But can you imagine now, what that gigantic ten pointer looks like without his most prized possession? Well, he looks like every other deer – pretty normal. And not only does he look like every other deer, he no longer has the advantage he once had. And he no longer commands the respect he once commanded. And he has no greater weapons than the younger and lighter-weight deer. By this simple process of nature, he is stripped of his singular identity and now must allow himself to blend in with other deer of every sort until the time comes when he once again will separate himself as an even more impressive animal than before.

Listen To Life
Do you inventory?

I was working on a project around our farm, putting up some more fencing.  Like most men, when I get involved in a project, I almost always require a trip to the home improvement store. And I have to look around and make sure there’s nothing else I need, especially if power tools are involved.

Meet Rutherford County’s New Chamber Of Commerce Director
His name is Forrest Clark Poole. He goes by his middle name, Clark. However, since becoming the new Director of the Rutherford Chamber of Commerce, he might start going by his first name. He’s up and running! “Run Forrest Run!” seems more appropriate for a man who came out of retirement and doesn’t intend to sit behind a desk.

East Rutherford’s Home Win Streak is Done in Double OT Thriller
East Rutherford’s Home Win Streak is Done in Double OT Thriller

Losing at home is tough for any team to swallow, but East Rutherford’s valiant effort came up short to protect the home court in a 76-71 loss to conference foe, Freedom.

The loss snapped a 24-game win streak at the confines of East Rutherford, when Salisbury beat them two years ago in the 2A playoffs.

Still, Freedom at East Rutherford last Friday was everything you could of asked for out of a two of the best hoops teams in the state.

The visiting Patriots held command all game long with a 12-point lead during in the first period and then led by 11 at the half. Freedom gained a 15-point advantage to start the third quarter, but the never say die Cavs kept fighting back.

Outdoor Truths
Outdoor Truths
I awoke early, gathered my computer, and sat on the couch. I usually check my email at that time and read my devotion that is sent to me each morning. I was also contemplating my other outdoor activity, running. It was very cold that morning. It was also drizzling rain. I was tired, unmotivated, and was giving into the temptation to stay at home and run on another, nicer day and time. That was until I opened up an email with an attachment about Team Hoyt. I thought I was going to be looking at Hoyt Bows’ new pro staff team. What I discovered was something that made me change my early morning plans.
