Rutherford Housing Partnership was honored September 29 by the N.C. Center for Nonprofits with one of three 2010 Nonprofit Sector Stewardship Awards. This annual statewide award recognizes nonprofits with excellent practices in ethics, accountability, and stewardship of the public’s trust and resources. The Center announced the awards in front of more than 700 nonprofit and community leaders at its 2010 Conference & Public Policy Forum.

“We selected Rutherford Housing Partnership for carefully building a strong organization that is able to expand on solid ground to meet the burgeoning need for urgent home repairs that affect residents’ health and safety,” said Jane Kendall, president of the N.C. Center for Nonprofits.

An important criterion for the N.C. Center’s Nonprofit Sector Stewardship Award is adherence to best practices. It calls RHP a model for effective management and leadership practices for both nonprofit organizations and businesses. The Center recognized it for its exemplary practices in five areas, as follows: 1. Fairness and ethics.  2. Financial accountability.  3. Communication with the public.  4. Collaboration.  5. Investment in training.
