Ruby Callahan Groom, 85, of Union Mills entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, June 12, 2013.

A native of Buncombe County and a resident of Union Mills for many years, she was the daughter of the late Paul B. and Carrie Burrell Callahan. She was preceded in death by her siblings Alfred, Hershel, Paul Jr. (Buddy), Stella and Margaret.

Ruby retired from Gilkey School cafeteria after 20 plus years. She loved bluegrass, cowboy movies, making flower arrangements and ceramics, but most of all she loved and cherished her children. She was caring, giving, and always saw the best in others and put them first. She was a very special Mom and friend, and will forever be in our hearts.

Ruby is survived by her children, Paul Ervin Forrest (Phyllis), Carolyn Williams (Marcell), Buck Roberts, Harold (Happy) Roberts (Teresa), Angela Hawkins, Gordon Morgan, and Michele Weiss (Chris); 15 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at Crowe’s Mortuary with Inez Ray and Jimmy Koone officiating. Interment followed in Eternal Hills Memorial Park.
