Like a year ago, when R-S Central led East Lincoln for most of the game, but the Mustangs came back and won. Likewise happened again to East Rutherford in the playoffs last week.

Basketball season has almost ended for high school students here in Rutherford County. Four of the five tourney teams were eliminated last week in the playoffs. East Rutherford's Men were the only ones left coming into the week.

Five of the eight high school basketball teams in Rutherford County made the postseason with the first three rounds taking place on Tuesday (February 26th), Thursday (28th) and Saturday (March 2nd)

High School Basketball update: Only six games are left in the Southwestern 2A regular season. East Rutherford holds the lead on the Men's side, with Shelby take behind. Meanwhile, the R-S Central girls coming into the week were playing maybe the best of all the conference teams, but they could easily have lost to the East Rutherford ladies, who had won 11 in row.

This train has been rolling for a long time.

When the Griffith Rutherford Chapter of the Daughters of The American Revolution recently honored five high school students for their citizenship, they rolled a train that has been on track since 1890 when the national organization was founded.

Men: East Rutherford (13-1) continues to roll as they opened league play 2-0 with wins against South Point and Chase. East will host R-S Central on the 29th, but had a huge game with Shelby on the 22nd.

R-S Central (10-6) has opened up 0-2 in league play, but has fallen by an average of 8.5 points per game. They led at the half at South Point, but couldn't finish the deal. They have Chase at home Friday the 25th and go to East Rutherford on the 29th.

When Sandy Mush native Leah Lineberry stepped into the director's job at Life Care Adult Day Services, she followed a passion that "grasped" her when she was 17 years old.

R-S Central (10-4) won twice this week on the men's side and could have a couple of more wins had some situational stuff not occurred late in games.

The coat drive was a success this year. With the help of the citizens and community agencies, we were able to provide warm clothing to over 450 individuals. Thank you for helping us.

East Rutherford: The Cavs won all three games to take the Chesnee Christmas Tourney. It was a tough last two games of the touney as they barely escaped Woodmont behind a great effort from Isaiah Lathan in that game.

December 1st may have begun as a cold rainy day, but the towns folk and out-of-town visitors were in for a treat as they entered the home built by the Bechtlers in the 1830s. Southern hospitality blended into a German celebration, Western North Carolina style, made for a delightful and nostalgic afternoon enjoyed by more than 200 guests whose signatures graced the registration book on this Saturday afternoon.

The Hilltoppers came up with what is the best win of the season as they downed a very strong Mountain Heritage, 75-68 last Friday.
