The RHI Legacy Foundation recently hosted Women Together. The Foundation’s predecessor was formed to raise money for Rutherford Hospital, and later, Rutherford Regional Health System.

Scott and Sharon Butler hold a portrait of their daughter, Holly, who died unexpectedly four years ago. The couple said they grieved very hard for two years before deciding to help others going through the same pain. The Grieving Parents Support Group has helped them through their grief.

Six years ago while in physical therapy, Jacob Conley’s physical therapist challenged him to take part in a 180-mile bicycle ride. Conley responded by saying “Don’t challenge me to do something because I will do it.”

R-S Central Lady Basketball made Regionals, but were derail two games short of the 2A championship. The Lady Hilltoppers beat South Stokes, Lake Norman Charter, and Mountain Heritage, but fell to Wilkes Central in Winston Salem.
Students can now sit with friends and use their laptops together, like Austin Street, Skylar Hollifield, Jurny Boyacheck and Jade Thompson have chosen to do.

Dr. Kim Gold never imagined she might someday follow in her father’s footsteps as executive vice president at Isothermal Community College. Angie Sanford and others will again run with a purpose this October when Run Against Addiction again offers a race that’s more than just a running event, but one that is designed to bring awareness to the problem of drug addiction and the power in overcoming it. Aryelle Miller’s face lights up when her mentor, Sandra Babcock, comes to read with her. The Pinkalicious books are some of her favorites because her favorite color is pink. Babcock, too, enjoys the time she spends with Aryelle. Monte and Enrique Vega are the owners of Small Town Coffee Roasters in Rutherfordton. The coffee shop sells coffee from beans the Vegas roast in an antique roaster on the side porch of the shop.

There’s flavor at Small Town Coffee Roasters, and it’s not just from the coffee. Patrons settle onto bar stools comfortably as though they were in a friend’s kitchen. Others chat animatedly on one of the couches. It’s a place where people can gather, where ideas are born and bloom from crop to cup, much like the coffee that’s served.
