In September 1964, the citizens of Rutherford County voted nearly 18 to 1 for a bond issue to build the first buildings that would create the campus of Isothermal Community College. Fifty years later, the College has grown to include a campus in Polk County, offers 87 programs of study, provides customized training to area business and is home to Rutherford Early College High School.

Thomas Jefferson has finally won a football playoff game! 

The past two seasons, both have ended in first round playoff losses. This past Friday, Coach Jerry Cash and his players earned the school’s first ever playoff win on the gridiron. The Gryphons Tyler Mitchell came up big when they needed him too. Following South Stanly’s only lead of the game at 8-6 in the first half, Mitchell took an 85-yard kickoff to the house and then he finalized the game with a 50-yard touchdown reception to cap a 33-14 win.

    Mitch Walters grandfather and father were auto dealers. His future was self proclaimed early, in the fifth grade, when the teacher asked all the kids to write a “Career Book”! It was a book about what they wanted to be when they grew up. Mitch Walters got an “A” on his paper and proudly stated that what he wanted was to have his own automobile dealership, just like his dad. He set his goals at a very young age and has and continues to have auto dealerships and realize his dream!

R-S Central will travel across county to East Rutherford as the two rivals vie for a shot at the county championship. If Central wins, they will win the title. East would have to beat Central this weekend and then Chase the following week to get the title back.
