The 2015 New Year’s Polar Plunge Will Have a New Location, But The Same Frozen Fun

Plungers will take the water at The 1927 Lake Lure Inn & Spa pool at noon on Jan. 1. The event has been relocated due to the lowering of Lake Lure for winter maintenance.

More than 200 people took part in the 2014 plunge, and awards were given for youngest plunger to a 3-year-old and the oldest plunger at age 69. Those awards, as well as for best costumes, will be given again this year during the after party. Hot chocolate and fire pits will keep those who take the plunge and those who choose to view warm.

A portion of the proceeds from the event will be given to the Lake Lure Fire and Rescue and other first responders. To register in advance, visit hickorynutchamber.org. The cost of the plunge is $20, and includes a Plunge Permit, Plunge Towel and more. Registration will also be held the day of the event from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.; plungers can pay by cash, credit or debit on the day of the event.
