Two municipal Town Clerks in Rutherford County have been awarded the prestigious designation of North Carolina Certified Municipal Clerks (NCCMC).

Forest City Town Clerk Emily Sain and Rutherfordton Town Clerk Mara N. Short received the status recently.

The designations is also from the North Carolina Association of Municipal Clerks, along with the school of Government of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for achieving its high educational, experience and service requirements.

Sain and Short join the 2020 class of municipal clerks from North Carolina who received the State designation -- North Carolina Certified Municipal Clerk.

This voluntary program hosted by the UNC School of Government is a robust combination of learning and professional development.

"It's great that Mara and Emily have gone down this road together to support each other and provide support to each other in their roles," said RutherfordtonTown Manager Doug Barrick. "They communicate often on issues and it has paid off wonderfully for both communities to have them as a resource."
