White, Reynold Earn Collegiate All-American in Baseball for 2013

Rutherford County has undoubtedly produced baseball talent in Gomer Hodge, then Randy Ingle, Todd Coffey, and Ryan Arrowood to name a few. This week, two young men have earned accolades and stamped their name among those who make the county proud of our diamond sport heritage once more.

Former Chase standout, Tyler White was named third team Louisville Slugger Collegiate All-American this season. White, who finished his senior year hitting .363, led the team in homers (16), doubles (27, also second in the nation) and with 66 RBI’s. It’s All About And For The Kids!

On Saturday, June 1st, from 4pm to 10pm, almost 70 bikers and friends showed up for a benefit poker run. It was sponsored by Gregory’s Original Restaurant in Rutherfordton. It was all for and about the kids!

The kids were those of Rutherford Spindale Youth Football and Cheerleading Association  (RSYFCA). The program is a “age and weight protected” youth football league. Their pride is to be able to offer every child in the community an equal opportunity to play youth football as well as cheerleading.

Listen To Life

How do you talk to your child?

Can you imagine the mother of Christopher Columbus saying, “I don’t care what you’ve discovered, you still could have written!”?

Or, George Washington’s mother saying, “The next time I catch you throwing money across the Potomac, you can kiss your allowance good-bye!”?

Or, Thomas Edison’s mother saying, “Of course I’m proud you invented the electric light bulb.  Now turn it off and go to sleep!”?

Outdoor Truths
My son and I just did a four hour float on the river. It was only my second time this year, but our first. I had been waiting for the water to recede from several spring rains that had hit our area. And after being away for a few days, it all lined up for us to go. It was a beautiful, short-sleeve comfortable, morning that was also full of some great expectations from me. This time of year the fishing can be good all day long and the fish don’t seem as finicky. The water was not yet warm enough to throw my favorite top water bait so we opted for a small fluke.
