Preschools, daycares and pre-k classes across the county were visited by Ms. Frizzle and Liz the Lizard to invite them to Kinder-Palooza and other Project Kindergarten events

Every February kicks off an exciting time for families of pre-kindergarten age children and for Rutherford County Schools (RCSNC) - time for kindergarten registration! Though preparing for a child's first days of elementary school is a thrilling prospect, anxiety over paperwork and processes can sometimes spoil the fun. Not this year, though! RCSNC is excited to welcome children and families to kindergarten and invites them to begin that journey with Project Kindergarten.

Project Kindergarten, in its second year, will include a host of fun-filled events and social media content from February to April. Pre-kindergarten age children and their families are invited to take part in as many of the events as they can. Children do not have to be registered for kindergarten to attend. Even if children aren't quite old enough to begin kindergarten or parents are unsure which school their child will attend, Project Kindergarten is open to all and is a great time to explore all the district offers!

Back by popular demand after an overwhelmingly fun inaugural event in 2018, the 'main event' this spring is, again, Kinder-Palooza. The festival-style event will be held on Tuesday, February 19, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Carolina Event and Conference Center (CECC). Like last year's event, at Kinder-Palooza, children will have the opportunity to ride the Magic School Bus with Ms. Frizzle, meet characters from Letterland, enjoy iPad activities, see robotics demonstrations, have their faces painted, take pictures with a green screen, try on high school graduation robes, and more. All RCSNC schools, the McNair Foundation, and the RCS Education Foundation will be present at Kinder-Palooza, so families can meet teachers and administrators from across the district, as well as ask questions about registration, programs, schools, and activities. There could also be some sweets, giveaways, and prizes, making Kinder-Palooza even more of a treat!

The fun will continue after Kinder-Palooza. RCSNC elementary schools have a host of special after-school events during which they are prepared to welcome pre-kindergarten families as honored guests. These regularly scheduled events - like Math Madness, STEM Night and festivals - will offer families of pre-kindergarten children a first-hand look at some of the exciting events and activities that regularly occur in elementary school. A continually updated list of these events will be available at rcsnc.org.kindergarten. Families are welcome to attend events both within and outside their school attendance areas. In fact, RCSNC encourages families to attend events across the district, as children will be exposed to a variety of exciting features and families will enjoy a rich overview of various elementary school offerings.

Children who are registered to attend kindergarten during the 2019-20 school year are also invited to Kindergarten Orientation on April 24 at the school where they are enrolled. With school tours, teacher meet and greets and other activities, Kindergarten Orientation is another opportunity to prepare children and families for the exciting year ahead as they embark on their elementary school journey together.

Follow RCSNC on Facebook (facebook.com/rcsnc) and Twitter (twitter.com/RCSNC) for Project Kindergarten updates and fun videos that will help pre-kindergarten families prepare for this exciting step of their child's life! Kindergarten registration will officially begin February 1 for children who were born on for before August 31, 2014. Families can register at the elementary school within their school attendance district by bringing their children's immunization records, birth certificates and social security cards. If registered before April 1, children will receive a special gift bag! For questions concerning districts, registration or Project Kindergarten, please call RCSNC at 828-288-2200.
