400 cyclists in Forest City this weekend; Cycle NC Mountain Ride

The Cycle North Carolina Mountain Ride is coming to Forest City beginning Friday, August 6 and continues through Sunday, Aug. 8. The ride will take cyclists throughout Western North Carolina for different routes.

This year marks the first time Forest City has hosted the event for North Carolina Amateur Sports, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, that sponsors the Cycle event.

Approximately 400 cyclists with an age of 57 will participate.

Mayor Steve Holland said the town is "honored to be hosting Cycle North Carolina this weekend. We will have cyclists from all over the country coming to this year."

Holland added, "I think this event is going to be a great way for us to showcase our town and surrounding areas. My hope is they will be so impressed that they will want to come back for future events."

The campsite for the three day event is at Summey Park in Forest City.

A look at the weekend schedule:

Friday, August 6

• 1pm Cycle NC Campsite at Summey Park opens for set up. At 1pm cyclists begin setting up camping area (outdoor and indoor) in the designated areas only. Access (parking, camping, etc.) is not permitted until 1 pm.

• 1-5pm Cycle NC Rider Services and Check-in Open: Check-in opens at the Cycle NC Rider Services located at Summey Park (286 Learning Way Dr). Check-in and Rider Services will be open from 1-5pm.

• 1-5pm Local Welcome Booth Open: The welcome booth will provide participants with info, area maps, restaurant info, weekend activities, local discounts and info about Forest City and Rutherford County.

• 3pm Tune Up Ride with the Route Developers: The tune up ride is 17 miles long (1200 feet of elevation gain) and a visit to Bostic. The highlights of the ride will be the Whistle Stop Bakery & Farm Store and the Bostic Lincoln Center. This ride is free to all participants, and will be marked and led by the route developers. The ride will begin and end at the Summey Park campsite.

• 6-9pm Forest City "Finally Fridays" & Cycle NC Welcome: Cyclists are invited to join the Forest City Finally Fridays event at P.O.P.S. Join the Cycle NC staff and town representatives for the official Cycle NC Welcome complete with the band Too Much Sylvia and beverages available.

Saturday, August 7

• 8am-5pm Cycle NC Rider Services and Check-in Open: Check-in opens at Rider Services located at Summey Park. Check-in and Rider Services will be open 8am-5pm.

• 8-11am Local Welcome Booth Open

• 8am Cycle NC Routes Open: All routes open at 8am. All routes begin and end at Summey Park. All routes will close at 4:30pm.

• 11-8pm Take some time to explore all that Rutherford County has to offer!

• 5-8pm CNC Mountain Ride Social Event at the Forest City Owls Stadium

The Cycle NC Mountain Ride Social for all registered participants will be located at McNair Field. The entertainment for the evening will be Rocky Helton and the Hired Guns. Food will be ready at 5:30pm.

Sunday, August 8

• Cycle NC Rider Services Opens: Check-in opens at Rider Services located at Summey Park. Check-in and Rider Services will be open from 10am-3pm. All routes open at 8am beginning and ending at Summer Park. All routes will close at 3pm.
